Small business owners never stop thinking about what’s next and how to make the most of what’s ahead.  But with 2020 and a new decade upon us staying focused on the big goals that will grow your business is easier said than done.  It is too easy to get caught up in the everyday operational tasks, putting out fires and juggling the many different hats we need to wear to keep everything ticking away.

Here are our 5 ways to help you Business Owners and Entrepreneurs stayed focused in 2020:

1. Seek Help

Whether it be from a peer, networking group, government agency or professionals like us, getting support from others will help to gain new perspectives, tap into their knowledge bank and build your confidence.

One Intuit study found that 41% of small business owners felt lonely in their work life. That same survey found that 70% of small business owners say networking with other business owners is important.

2. Improve Efficiencies

How well do you capture information? Track projects?  Ensure everyone follows the same process? Improving how you work not only increases productivity and cuts down on mistakes, but allows you more space to focus on your business priorities.

Whether it’s utilising your task management system fully, updating procedures or training your team, make sure you have the right tools for the job and they are continuingly challenged and reviewed.

3. Get Organised

Yes we have said it before and we will say it again but organisation is key.  Plan out your year / month / week / day setting priorities, realistic timescales and identifying who else needs to be involved, regularly reviewing status to ensure you keep on track.

4. Stop Putting It Off

Business owners need time to work on the “Bigger Picture” but often get caught up in all the little things we have to do to keep our business running.  Regularly set aside time to focus on developing your business and ideas, breaking them down into manageable tasks.

5. Remove Distractions

It is far too easy to get dragged into every conversation, attend every meeting and reply to every email.  Close your emails and door, mute your phone and clear your mind.

Train your brain to work this way and start reaping the benefits!
